Movement of the locomotives along the rail systems are regulated by the Interoperable Train Control (ITC) Positive Train Control (PTC) system. The typical network configuration consists of a Back Office Server (BOS), On-Board Unit (OBU) and Wayside Interface Units (WIU). The OBU controls the movement of the locomotive from information from the BOS and WIUs containing speed regulation information, switching, and crossing status.
